How to judge the attractiveness of a city, when one thinks of settling there? Employment rate ? Level of wages and rents? Living conditions ? The besttaux.com real estate comparator and Jobijoba job aggregator proposed a draft response, in a study published this Tuesday, November 20th. Their barometer of the attractiveness of major French cities thus classifies municipalities according to several criteria: job offers, wages, interest rates and property prices, among others. These data make it possible to calculate households' purchasing power, ie the number of m2 that can be purchased with a loan over 20 years, with the proposed net income. This purchasing power is then multiplied at the rate of permanent contracts per 100 inhabitants and provides a score, on which Meilleurtaux and Jobijoba are based for the establishment of their ranking of the most attractive cities.

Grenoble, Lille and Lyon form the leading trio of the most attractive cities. The Isère city wins a place compared to the 2017 ranking and thus dethrones the capital of Flanders. Lyon also wins a place and completes the podium. In these cities, it is not so much the purchasing power of real estate that makes the difference – respectively 60, 49 and 36 m2-, but more the high number of permanent contracts for 100 inhabitants – between 10 and 14. For very logically, finding a job makes housing much easier. Behind, follow Le Mans, Dijon and Toulouse. "This 2nd edition confirms that it is not necessarily the cities" trend "of the moment that offer the best compromise in terms of employment and housing. So real estate is expensive as in Bordeaux and Strasbourg, or employment n ' is not at the rendezvous, as on the Mediterranean rim ", details the barometer.
